Syringe Driver Training

Syringe driver training is now available as an on-line training module from Hospice New Zealand. This module covers the theory and calculations components. Following completion of this, nurses can register for a practical session to complete their syringe driver certification.

· ALL new nursing staff, those who have not been using a syringe driver regularly in their practice, those who do not feel confident using a syringe driver, or those who have not attended a syringe driver certification course in the last 2 years should enrol.

· Nurses need to complete the on-line learning module before attending a practical session. Complete your registration via this link. Once enrolled, you will get an email confirmation advising you can start the online module.

· A practical session will follow the online module, and will likely be 1 – 1½ hours long. Please register using the OCH registration form, for the next session in your area or discuss with a care coordinator or other member of the Otago Community Hospice team.

· If you have already attended a syringe driver training session in the past 2 years and are a confident and regular user of syringe drivers you will not need to complete the training again until your next 2 year certification is due, or as directed by your employers policy.
