Syringe Driver Competency Programme.

The Hospice New Zealand Syringe Driver Competency program was developed to provide healthcare professionals with the necessary knowledge and skills to manage syringe drivers competently.

Over the past four years, this course has been offered via a blended learning approach, with an online component, and a competency assessment workshop being delivered face-to-face by local Hospice educators and clinical nurse specialists.

The new look online component is now available through the Te Kahu Pairuri o Aotearoa Hospice New Zealand website /Knowledge Hub/ Login or sign up/Online Courses/search Syringe Driver.

Many of you will need to register first to enter Knowledge Hub.

Once you are in, follow the instructions and work your way through the online learning.

It is up to your individual facility as to how often you need to renew your learning but is recommended to do this yearly.

If you feel a bit rusty or in need of an update because you do not use syringe drivers very often in your facility the free participant booklet can be downloaded. It is a great resource to keep handy.

If you want some practice doing drug calculations, at the end of the participant booklet, there are some examples of calculations you can try.

If you need any advice or guidance, feel free to make contact: Either via the Education email – education@otagohospice.co.nz - or by calling 0800 473 6005 to speak with the Education Administrator, Jackie McLaughlin.

DID YOU KNOW?

On the Hospice New Zealand website is the Palliative Care Lecture Series.

These occur on the first Thursday of every month from 730am to 830am via Zoom.

BUT great news:

If you are working or otherwise busy, previous lectures are recorded and available to watch on this website. So, plenty of opportunities to keep updated and learn more.
