Home Support Us Fundraising

Otago Community Hospice is a free-of-charge community service because of the generosity of people just like you. We support around 260 Otago people at any given time, with more than 870 patients cared for each year. While our service is delivered in the community, around 25% of our patients will be admitted to our Dunedin-based inpatient unit for acute and complex symptom management.

We also support patients’ whānau with counselling, carer education (Kōwhai Programme) and 24/7 advice on 0800 473 6005.

We are primarily funded by the newly formed Te Whatu Ora but we rely heavily on the community to fundraise the shortfall we face each year.

With a target of $3.2 million, that equates to fundraising $62,000 every week!

We are always refining our services so we can do more with less, however our region’s footprint is large and our community’s needs are increasingly complex. We rely heavily on individuals, community groups and businesses supporting us, so we can support and empower people, and their families/whānau, who are dying in Otago to live well and die well.

There are many other ways you can support us, for example volunteering or organising a fundraising event.

Whether you are a business, an individual or a service club, we love it when others run events to raise money for Hospice. We are a very small fundraising team, and we simply can’t co-ordinate the number of events needed to raise the target of $3.2 million.

If you or your group want to run an event, anything from a Dinner Club, a golf tournament or a quiz night, give us a call as we are happy to promote your event, provide our branded banners and buckets for your event. We even have a givealittle page, so you can create a givealittle page for your event or fundraising activity which links through to ours, and makes donations super easy: https://givealittle.co.nz/org/otghospice

We may also be able to provide volunteers for your event.

We are always here to discuss ways in which you can help.
