Oamaru Hospice Shop and North Otago Hospice Service Move
The Oamaru Hospice Shop opens in the new space on Thursday, 16 November, with the Hospice Community Team shifting in December. The move has been triggered by the need for building remediation at the current Hospice Hub site on Thames Highway.
Otago Community Hospice CEO Ginny Green says the new site provides an exciting opportunity.
“We are having to shift due to our current site needing quite significant remedial work caused by damp, but there is a terrific silver lining to this move as we will be in the heart of Oamaru. I imagine our shop will get a lot more foot traffic, which will be terrific around this Christmas period.”
“For our community team, things will be slightly different in that health provider and family carer education will need to happen at external locations – whereas we used to host all of these events at the hub. As always, the Oamaru community has been terrific about these changes, and we recently used the Opera House for these education sessions to great effect,” says Ms Green.
“Over the last few months, the clinical team have been located in the Oranga Tamariki/Ministry of Social Development building, sharing space with the team at Te Hā o Maru (Te Rūnanga o Moeraki). A huge thanks to everyone in those teams for making us so welcome.”
