"In the 2022 State of Volunteering Report, almost half of community organisations identified that their ageing pool of volunteers was their single biggest challenge"

Volunteer South and the University of Otago's Social Impact Studio are collaborating in a pilot project to look at how we can engage student volunteers.

We have put our hand up to work with a team of students to see what we can do to improve engagement from students in a way that benefits Hospice.  With the scope of the project we decided to initially focus on shop volunteering.

The team of students put together 25 suggestions, and we had the opportunity to choose two of them to develop together.  We decided on these two:

1) Posters in the shops talking about volunteer impact.

2) Young people can have pretty changing schedules so instead of having set shifts, could have a more flexible approach with a pool of casual volunteers who can pick up each others shifts when necessary.

We are really looking forward to seeing what they come up with.
