There was much to celebrate on 1st September 2019 at the Mosgiel Hospice Shop.

It has been ten years since the shop opened in Mosgiel.

The shop has had several shop managers, with each adding their own signature to the shop. The biggest change was seen in 2017 when Tina Tunster took the shop from its very small premises to the current premise just three doors down on Gordon Rd. This move has seen the shop’s turnover double. So this celebration was also the Hospice’s Shop’s two year anniversary in the new site.

Tina Tunster has now moved on and new shop manager Anke Hoggett-Schnebeck arrived last month, just in time to put together the birthday celebrations. Anke comes with ten years’ experience running a similar operation in Hastings, Hawkes Bay.

The Mosgiel Hospice shop is a key part of the Hospice fundraising efforts, generating 170,000 for the Hospice in the last financial year.

It is very well supported with both a team of volunteers and an incredibly generous community of donors around Taeiri.

At the celebrations, we also commemorated four volunteers who have been helping out at the shop since day one, a decade ago: Daphne Parsons, Mary Tisdall, Elisabeth Govaerts and Sheryl Fuller.

Retail Development Manager Cat Callanan says the shop has been a real jewel in the Hospice shop network.

“The Mosgiel community has really wrapped around our Hospice shop with incredible support as volunteers, donors and shoppers. It’s a real tribute to this community, raising such significant sums for Hospice service in this region and we are very grateful to everyone in the community who have lent a hand.

Unfortunately the fundraising need never ceases and we are always looking for new volunteers to help us in the shop, so please share the word.”
