The Upper Clutha Hospice Trust Board (UCHTB) transferred the Trust’s two Wānaka retail operations to the Otago Community Hospice.

Hospice CEO Ginny Green said the gift of the second hand shops was perfectly timed, as the Hospice faced increased patients and associated costs in the Central Otago region.

“We are extremely grateful for the support we have received annually over the years from both the UCHT and the community at large, and this cements that connection. We are very excited about working with the incredible shop team in Wānaka.”

The UCHTB established their retail shops in Wanaka to supplement the generous donations received to set up and operate the Trust’s Stina Mooyman Palliative and Respite Care Suite, located within the Aspiring Enliven Care Centre.

“The UCHTB has received exceptional community support since its inception, and has built up significant financial reserves, that in the Trustees opinion, are now sufficient to hand over the reins of the shops to the OCH,’ said Chairman Russell McGeorge.

This handing over of the keys means the OCH will operate the hospice shops in Wanaka to directly fund their services, while the UCHTB will continue to fund the Stina Mooyman Palliative and Respite Care Suite and support patients in the community in difficult financial circumstances.

The OCH is the hospice provider throughout Otago and delivers specialist palliative care services to patients experiencing complex symptoms in the Upper Clutha area.

There will be no change to the excellent palliative care and support that both entities deliver in the Upper Clutha.
