OCH Nurses Honored At Southern Awards
Sally received a Clinical Excellence Award - an award that recognises nurses who provide exceptional nursing care and role model clinical excellence in their practice. While Salena received a Rising Star Award - an award that recognises nurses who have already made significant contributions to the nursing profession early in their career.
Sally and Salena were nominated by their team leaders - Gina and Sally - who had wonderful things to say about them.
"It is with great respect and admiration that I nominate Sally Hanrahan for the Nursing Excellence Award. Sally has been a valued member of our organisation for 35 years, and throughout her career, she has consistently demonstrated the highest standards of clinical practice, compassion, leadership, and dedication to both her colleagues and the communities we serve. Sally is a nurse who truly places patients and their whānau at the center of her care. " - Gina Berry
"Every now and then you come across a nurse who displays natural ability and affiliation with the nursing process. You recognise a person who is going to develop into a great nurse, who will be a strong role model for the nursing profession. Salena is this nurse. I congratulate Salena on her nursing career to date and look forward to great things in the future." - Sally Fleming.
Feedback from the community was equally generous.
"Sally cared for my dad in the hospice in 2021. She is not only an expert nurse but graciously spent time sitting with me, answering my questions and guiding me through what was happening. She made the worst time of my life that bit easier and I often think of her."
"Congratulations. Amazing nurses! So well deserved."
Getting these awards is an honour at any time of the year, but it was especially timely that these came during Hospice Awareness Week, because Sally and Salena have spent their entire careers working in palliative care - One short (for now) and one a little bit longer
